Maximize the benefit of your commitment by donating your points toward Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's general operations. When you donate your Commit for Life store points, you can help us efficiently manage the expenses associated with collecting, processing and distributing blood to patients in our hospitals. Our expenses include the following:
- Program Support Services: Information systems and computers for tracking donors and blood products throughout our many systems; Building and Fleet management for 17 collection sites and a fleet of more than 100 vehicles to pick up, deliver and collect blood products; Quality Assurance; Medical Services; and Education and Training to ensure properly trained staff.
- Distribution: Staff, vehicles and fuel required to distribute blood products to hospitals and healthcare facilities in the 26-county Texas Gulf Coast region.
- General Operations: Funding for administrative support departments – Human Resources, Business Operations, Risk Management and Executive support.
- Component Processing: Staff and equipment used to separate and process whole blood units into red blood cells, platelets and plasma.
- Donor Recruitment: Publicity and promotions, telerecruitment, direct mail and staff associated with motivating the public to Commit for Life.
- Testing and Quality Control: Each donation undergoes 14 tests and very strict quality control that must be performed for each unit prior to its distribution for patient use.
- Collections: Staff, vehicles, fuel, equipment, blood bags, supplies and refreshments associated with the collection of blood at more than 6,000 mobile blood drives and 17 Neighborhood Donor Centers.
