William Chen

"I did my medical training at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston - during that time, I have treated many patients who need blood transfusion either from traumatic blood loss or medical diseases.  Most of them do not have many family members who can donate or have matching blood.  Therefore, their lives depend on strangers whose blood can, will and have saved their lives.  Nowadays I try to donate regularly and I write health articles for my subdivision encouraging the residents to donate."

"My daughter, Nia Richardson, was born on June 30, 2009, with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. At only 6 days old, she had the first of three open heart surgeries. During and after her surgery she needed to have a few blood transfusions. She had her second surgery on October 13, 2009, and she needed transfusions as well. Because of the people who commit to donate blood for life, she was able to receive blood when she needed it most."
