Continue the Commitment

Whether it’s because a loved one received blood or simply because of a desire to help others, there’s a story behind every blood donor’s commitment to saving lives. In the first quarter of 2008, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center wants donors to share their stories as part of the “Continue the Commitment” promotion.

January is Commit for Life Month, and starting Jan. 1, blood donors can click on the link below, and tell us why they Commit for Life. Everyone who does will receive 100 bonus points for the Commit for Life store, which includes clothing, watches, iPod Shuffles and many more items that donors can get when they redeem their points. The promotion ends March 31.

Those who submit their stories also may be selected to participate in the 2009 Commit for Life campaign, which shares donors and recipients’ stories and photos with others through the Commit for Life calendar, brochures and other printed materials. When individuals tell their personal stories, they not only reaffirm their own commitment, but they also may motivate others to Commit for Life as well.

Tanye Cole is one example of an individual who has saved lives by sharing her story. Today she is a Commit for Life donor, but 21 years ago, she became a recipient when she required an immediate blood transfusion following the birth of her son. She frequently tells others her story of Committing for Life, and in doing so, helps save more lives through the people she inspires to donate.

“Because of someone who gave blood 21 years ago, I’ll be able to see my son graduate from college next year,” Cole says. “Now I Commit for Life to give other families the same opportunities I’ve had.”
