Spotlight on Success: Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines has decided to Commit for Life and become a gold-level donor group by following the Path for Success.  They are doing their part to permanently increase the blood supply in the Texas Gulf Coast region by hosting one drive per quarter, scheduling the donors, and spreading the work by forming a blood drive committee.

How does Continental Airlines follow the Path for Success?

  1. Hosting at least one drive per quarter—Beginning in 2006, Continental Airlines is hosting one blood drive each quarter of the year.  This allows their dedicated donors to become Commit for Life members and helps The Blood Center meet its annual life-saving goals.
  2. Scheduling the donors—By scheduling appointments, Continental ensures their blood drives run smoothly and meets the collection goals for the community.  They have reduced wait time while maximizing their life-saving efforts.  Collections at Continental Airlines downtown headquarters are up almost 73% per drive in 2006 with 576 lives saved so far this year!
  3. Spread the Work—Committees spread the amount of work required between different individuals, get new and creative ideas to improve drives, and allow other individuals to participate in this rewarding experience.  Continental employees spread the work by recruiting volunteers to deliver GET SET customer service by greeting donors and managing appointment schedules at each drive.  To learn more about GET SET and how your volunteers can improve your blood drives, click here.

In addition to their efforts as a gold-level Commit for Life group, Continental Airlines is giving donors and chairpersons a chance to fly high with Continental Month in September.

For Commit for Life Donors:
Commit for Life this September for a chance to fly high with Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Continental Airlines, the official airline of Commit for Life.

Commit for Life members who donate or attempt to donate in September will be entered to win one of two pairs of Continental BusinessFirst tickets for travel to any Transatlantic, Pacific, Hawaii, South America, Europe, India, Guam or Asia destination where Continental flies.

Additionally, all Commit for Life donors who have donated at least once in 2006 prior to September also will receive an automatic entry in the giveaway!

Individuals who are not currently Commit for Life donors may sign up to join the program and donate or attempt to donate in September to participate. As requests for blood components currently are at an all-time high, now is the perfect time to Commit for Life.

For Commit for Life chairpersons:

As a special thank you to blood drive chairpersons, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Continental Airlines - the official airline of Commit for Life - are giving away one pair of round-trip airline tickets to America and the Caribbean.  All Commit for Life donor groups that host a blood drive in September and exceed their life-saving target by at least 10 percent will receive an automatic entry, and one lucky chairperson will be randomly selected to win!
