Spotlight on Success: Rice University chairperson lets students take the reins

Rice University blood drive chairperson R. Mac Griswald takes a unique, but very successful approach to saving lives.

He oversees drives held by 10 different groups on campus (nine colleges and The Student Center), each of which has its own student chairperson and committee. As a result, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has had 22 blood drives with the various groups on campus this year, collecting an impressive total of 888 donations.

The Rice groups encourage donors to use eDonor for online scheduling, which makes drives more efficient and leaves plenty of time for the committees to create a fun experience – a major factor in why students are so excited to Commit for Life.
