Spotlight on Success

Continental Winner

For more than 30 years, Huntsville Churches has saved countless lives; however, this isn’t your typical church drive.  On the second Saturday of every month, more than 17 churches put their denominations aside and join together to save lives. In the last year, more than 1,000 donations were collected – saving more than 3,000 lives.

What makes this drive successful?

1)   Leadership and participation.
Huntsville Churches has had only three chairpeople (leaders) in the drive’s 30-year history. This stability clearly shows with the drive’s structure and smooth operation.  The last drive had 100 donors and not one person had to wait.

2)  Teamwork.
Two churches sponsor each drive, with participation from the other 15 churches.  Each takes an active roll in recruiting current/new donors.  Each brings food to the drive to feed staff and keep donors well-nourished.  This reduces the number of donor reactions and ensures a great donor experience.

2)   Signage.
More than 60 directional signs and dozens of banners and posters are used for each drive.  At least 30 signs are posted throughout the mall, and more than 30 signs are posted outside.

3)   Pre-blood drive activity.
The chairperson hosts blood drive conferences for all participating church leaders.  Call committees contact donors and schedule appointments and/or reminds of appointments already made. Pep rallies are even held to generate additional excitement.

Overall, this organization’s drive to save lives makes them an unstoppable force.   With more than 3,000 lives saved in the last year alone, and more churches continue to add to the group, The Blood Center looks forward to this group’s life-saving capabilities and they encourage so many to Commit for Life.
